Weekend Workshop: A Deep Dive into Trauma-Conscious Care
Saturday, April 23, 10am-4pm (with a 2-hour lunch break 12-2PM) + Sunday, April 24
This weekend training gives you the chance to explore trauma, resilience, and mind-body connection in three separate sessions. By discussing the fundamental principles of trauma and trauma-conscious care, and how to apply them to mindfulness and somatic practices, we can start to understand how the body interprets what happens to us. Together, these three sessions offer an integrated approach to strengthening our mind-body connections to help us build a deeper sense of connection and community in our relationships with ourselves and others.
Who will benefit: Educators, credible messengers, youth workers, mental health providers, caretakers, group facilitators and anyone interested in learning how Lineage models trauma-conscious care in our classes inside NYC systems.
Schedule: Saturday, April 23, 10am-4pm (with a 2-hour lunch break 12-2PM) + Sunday, April 24 10am-12pm EST.
We are offering this training on a sliding scale. Discounts are available for alumni of Lineage Project’s programs and training:
Supporter rate: $95

Day 1: Saturday, April 23 10am-4pm EST
Part 1: Trauma Fundamentals
The word “trauma” is widely used now and and we want to make sure we are not desensitized to what people are going through -- both on a personal level and because of systemic oppression. We don’t have to be experts in neuroscience or trauma, but having a basic understanding of what it is and how it shows up in the body can be helpful both for yourself and with the people you serve.
In this two hour workshop, we’ll explore the fundamental concepts of trauma, including the different kinds of trauma, how trauma affects the brain and nervous system and ways it shows up in the body. We’ll learn and practice resourcing techniques to support our nervous systems.
Part 2: Foundations of Trauma-Conscious Care
Trauma-conscious care is a framework that shifts away from the deficit-based approach (i.e. “what’s wrong with you”) to a resource-focused mindset (i.e. “what can support you”)? Making this shift helps us to critically transform the way we show up and hold space for others.
In this two-hour online workshop, we will explore core concepts of trauma-conscious care that help us build a deeper sense of connection and community in our relationships with ourselves and others. Through experiential practices, reflection and shared dialogue, we will explore how this way of “showing up” provides a powerful framework for trust-building, empowerment and personal agency.
DAY 2: Sunday, April 24 10am-12pm
Part 3: Trauma-Conscious Mindfulness & Somatics
How can we make sure we are practicing and/or teaching in a way that is in alignment with the basic principles of trauma informed care? By drawing on the learnings from the previous two Deep Dives, we will begin to weave together how we can support ourselves and others with trauma conscious mindfulness and somatic practices. Mindfulness practices can be broadly defined as practices that bring compassionate curious attention to what is happening in the present moment. Somatic practices help us attune to our bodies’ sensations, vibes and emotions in a way that can support the nervous system.
We’ll dedicate time to experiential learning so that we can get a sense of what trauma-conscious mindfulness and somatic practices can look and feel like in the body. We will explore how this embodiment can help us to grow, play, dream, and hope.
