CHIA-TI CHIU
Teacher + Senior Trainer
Chia-Ti has over 21 years of experience teaching movement, mindfulness, somatics and trauma informed resilience in New York City. Her movement modalities include hatha yoga, vinyasa yoga, restorative yoga, qigong, somatics, and pilates. She is a senior teacher with the Lineage Project, having been with the organization for 17 years. She offers mindful movement and meditation to young people and direct service staff in detention centers, alternate to incarceration programs, public high schools, and after school programs. Chia-Ti facilitates Lineage’s 20-hour training, which offers mindfulness practices through a trauma-conscious, anti-oppression, and social justice lens. She also teaches professional development workshops to CUNY and other educational and youth serving organizations. These workshops include tips on how to mitigate stress and burnout, while increasing nervous system flow and collective care. She develops programming and curriculum, with a focus on resourcing Lineage’s apprentice teachers in training. Chia-Ti is inspired to see her students embody resilience by using both mindfulness and their own practices to cope with stress, anger, and challenging life circumstances.
Outside her work with Lineage, Chia-Ti leads domestic and international yoga retreats through her business onelovewellness. She also provides mindfulness and somatic consulting and facilitates workshops on brain-body connection, navigating stress (i.e. navigating life), and cultivating resilience and belonging. She works with a range of populations from youth to adults to elders. She leads mindful movement and psycho-social education for the Garrison Institute's Contemplative-Based Resilience Project, which trains humanitarian aid workers, social service providers, and Congressional staffers to cope with burnout and navigate stress. She is a certified yoga teacher through the Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana in Bangalore, India, the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method, and has extensive training in trauma-informed care, qigong, somatics, and healing centered engagement. She believes in making wellness accessible, affordable, and relevant for all.
